Welcome to New Entreprenuership

by Kevin on December 4, 2009

Welcome to the inaugural post for Startupbizblog. My name is Kevin, and I started this blog as a resource and community forum for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs alike.

One of the keys to success for many long-time entrepreneurs is that they remain, in essence, students of all things small business. From trends and developments to emerging loan programs and pending regulation, a wave of issues can have a significant impact on the daily life of a small business owner.

Staying on top of those developments, along with networking with and learning from other innovators, is crucial for the long-term health of most businesses.

My goal is to use this site as a hub for information, advice and honest discussion that can help small business owners and entrepreneurs capitalize on their passion and ideas to the fullest.

I’m a slightly different type of small business student — the kind who’s still studying business in college. This site will combine some of the latest findings and classroom trends regarding entrepreneurship with advice and input from seasoned veterans.

There are thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs out there hungry for knowledge and insight. And even some of those seasoned veterans can learn a few new things when it comes to conducting business in the 21st century.

To start things off, I wanted to share a brief list of small business and entrepreneur resources. Some of these are well-known, while others are more “in-the-know” type sites. Each offers an array of practical, useful information.

Sites:

  • Entrepreneur.com – An industry bible, Entrepreneur magazine has one of the most comprehensive sites online devoted to small business news and trends
  • Venturehacks.com – Advice on startups from experts on venture capital, angel investing and other capital sources
  • Inc.com – Another industry standard and excellent print (Inc magazine) and online resource
  • Kauffman.org – The Kauffman Foundation has programs on youth, minority and global entrepreneurship.
  • SBALoans.com – Information on Small Business Administration loan programs

Kevin – where do you go to school?

Do you enjoy studying business? I consider myself an entreprenuer, but I am also considering getting an engineering degree instead of a business degree. What are your thoughts?
