The following is a guest post from my younger brother Steven Kaiser, who is a freshman at the University of Missouri. Steven has recently been hired as a marketing specialist for an online insurance company. As such, I wanted to take advantage of his unique perspective to gain some insight into the mind of an entrepreneur who’s just beginning a career in online marketing.
In this day and age of social networks, I’ve seen the importance of staying connected firsthand. The saying “it’s not about what you know, but who you know,” has become more apparent than ever before. Staying connected helps build relationships with others, and having a strong network of connections can be so valuable to ones company.
Because I’m pursuing a business degree in accounting, I’ve had to take a number of marketing classes. These classes have confirmed my thoughts about the importance of staying connected. Combined with my strong familiarity with computers and the Internet, my new awareness of marketing connectivity encouraged me to consider online marketing as a viable career option.
When I heard there was opening at SuretyBonds.com for an online marketing specialist who would focus on search engine optimization (SEO), I immediately knew I was interested. Because I didn’t know much about SEO, I did some research. I learned that the main goal of SEO is to enhance your website’s rankings in search engines such as Google and Bing. To do so effectively, one must build links back to a site by communicating online with others. When I learned the key to effective SEO was building strong relationships for a company, I knew online marketing was something I could definitely be good at.
Although I’m still new to my job, I’ve loved it so far. To expand my marketing knowledge, I plan to take more marketing classes while in school. I also realize that reading about different marketing strategies will improve my marketing skills and keep me up-to-date with the latest techniques.
Continuing to effectively communicate with my coworkers will also be vital to my success. Communication with my fellow marketers ensures that we all help each other out and learn from one another. I look forward to taking on bigger projects that will allow me to move up in the company. Joining the marketing team has been an amazing experience, and I hope I can help my team succeed in the future.
